For this redesign, I wanted to see what it might look like if the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets were to meet in the Super Bowl rather than the World Series. The project brief was to focus on converting the jerseys to something more likely to be seen in the NFL while also maintaining the integrity of the MLB jerseys. As a result, it produced a little challenge in making the NFL jerseys appear interesting as the Mets and Royals jerseys are a little...well...plain. But the colors really lended a fun aspect to play with in making the jerseys look great!
For the Royals, I stuck with their Home, Road, and Alternate jersey. However, I added an older alternate jersey that they haven't worn consistently since Greinke was a Royal. I tried to play with the shoulder pads and the colors to look more like a royal king's cape peeking over from the back.
For the Mets, their home jerseys presented a challenge with the stripes (because stripes look pretty bad on football jerseys). Therefore, I incorporated the stripes of the home jersey in the shoulder pads. The other jerseys maintained the new stripe along the side of the jersey found in the batting practice jerseys and the older uniforms from the Mets (the growing stripe in the 80s, etc.).
Overall, the project went fairly well and although I wish I had maybe pushed the jerseys a little bit further to the boundaries, I think the jerseys still maintained the integrity of their MLB counterparts.
